Springville, AL: August 2015: The Parks and Recreation Department of Springville, Alabama, was the recipient of two automated external defibrillators (AEDs) and two medical-grade first aids kits from the National Center for Sports Safety’s (SportsSafety.org) AED Placement Program. All of the units were fully funded in a grant written by the National Center for Sports Safety, a nonprofit, to the Altec/Styslinger Foundation Inc.
Parks & Recreation
Springville has three parks that provide a variety of opportunities for adults and especially children. The largest park is the Youth Sports Complex located at 101 Camp Road. This facility has three baseball fields, a softball field, two concession stands, a pavilion, and four batting cages. The city owned VFW building, which is available for the public to rent, is also located in this complex. This park was completed in 1978 and was partially funded by Federal and State grants.
Fishing at Big Springs Park
Big Springs Park is located at 75 Old Talladega Road. This park contains a small lake that draws it's water from the crystal clear stream of spring water that flows through the park. This stream of water originates a short distance north of the park and is the runoff from the city's main drinking water source. You can also find a popular walking track at Big Springs Park. The track is 1730 feet in length and extends along the creek and around the lake. Bright, decorative lighting surrounds the track to provide an opportunity for those that prefer to walk at night. Monuments honoring Veterans and the recipients of the Purple Heart can also be found in the park.
