A building permit is required for any new construction, additions or alterations to existing structures (including decks), or for work that requires an inspection. Fences, pools and accessory structures also need a building permit prior to installation. This includes work performed by the homeowner or business owner. It is a good idea to speak with an inspector prior to any construction you are planning to be sure this type of construction or use is allowable.
The following are required for a building permit:
- Two (2) full sets of detailed construction drawings.
- A plot plan showing the set backs in relation to the lot lines and any existing structures on the lot.
- Written certification from the Health Department of approval for the septic tank, if applicable.
- A drawing should accompany it, showing where the septic tank and lines will be placed.
- A completed building permit application.

Mobile homes are also regulated through the Zoning Ordinance. Proper permitting must be obtained prior to moving in a mobile home, even if there is a mobile home currently on the property.
The following are required for a mobile home permit:
-Proof of ownership of the property where the mobile home is proposed to be placed, or written permission from the property owner to allow the applicant to place the mobile home on this property.
-A plot plan showing the set backs in relation to the lot lines and any existing structures on the lot.

-A completed mobile home permit application.

All new subdivisions of land within the city's corporate limits and all unincorporated land lying within 1 mile in all directions of the city's corporate limits are governed by these Subdivision Regulations.
